Silicone rubber differs from traditional elastomers in a large number of characteristics. One of the main ones is that silicone rubber continues to maintain its characteristics at temperatures from -100°C to + 250°C. It should also be noted that at temperatures above + 300°C silicone rubber has the property of crystallizing into a non-conductive layer of silicon oxide (IV) (or silicon dioxide, silica SiO2).
Another big plus is its physiological passivity and lack of toxicity, which allows it to be used for medical purposes and in the food industry, because products made of silicon-organic rubber can be treated with steam or boiling water.
