Environmental impact assessment (EIA) is a procedure before the start of a planned economic activity, which involves the preparation by economic entities, state authorities and local self-government bodies of an environmental impact assessment report, holding a public discussion, analyzing the information provided in the report and providing the conclusion of the environmental impact assessment by the authorized body.

Planned economic activity – construction, reconstruction, technical re-equipment, expansion, repurposing, liquidation (dismantling) of objects and other interventions in the natural environment.

Impact on the environment - any possible consequences of the planned activity, namely: consequences related to human life, flora, fauna, biodiversity, soil, air, water, natural protected areas, historical monuments, natural landscapes, objects cultural heritage and socio-economic conditions that have developed as a result of changes in the natural environment.

In order to take into account all possible aspects of the impact on the environment, on 18.12.2017, the Law of Ukraine "On environmental impact assessment" came into force. It is based on EU Directive No. 2001/42 "On the assessment of the impact of individual plans and programs on the environment", which Ukraine is obliged to was to be implemented in accordance with the Association Agreement with the EU. Adoption of the law was also required in accordance with the Protocol on the Accession of Ukraine to the Treaty "On the Establishment of the Energy Community".

The assessment of the impact on the environment is carried out in compliance with the requirements of the legislation on the protection of the natural environment, taking into account the state of the environment in the place where it is planned to carry out the planned activity, environmental risks and forecasts, prospects for the socio-economic development of the region, capacity and types of cumulative impact (direct and indirect). on the environment, including taking into account the impact of existing facilities and planned activities.
Without assessing the impact on the environment and obtaining a decision on the implementation of the planned activity, the implementation of the planned economic activity, operation of objects, intervention in the natural environment and landscapes is prohibited. Article 3, Clause 4 of the Law of Ukraine "On Environmental Impact Assessment".

It is extremely important to determine all possible impacts and their consequences for the environment, to develop measures to reduce and prevent them, in order to protect the business entity from possible adverse actions of regulatory authorities, fines, and negative public opinion during the implementation of the planned activities.

Involvement of the subject of economic activity in the comprehensive environmental impact assessment procedure of our project organization will contribute to the adoption of ecologically competent management decisions that will allow to pass the environmental impact assessment procedure positively and will benefit the enterprise and the environment.
